Chris Briscoe's win against Eddie Dearing
Chris Briscoe, a candidate master, has carved a niche for himself as a professional chess coach in Surrey /South West London. He plays for more than one club and his busy competition and teaching schedule has not left him much time to grace the top board of Kingston this year. Chris is capable of beating top players as demonstrated in this victory against International Master Eddie Dearing. The game was played on the top board of the Mushrooms v Drunken Knights London League Eastman Cup match (won by the Knights) where Chris played as the top Mushroom. In these engaging notes, Chris sets out his thoughts during the game. It would be fair to say that Chris’s departure from theory was unintentional and, although his position became inferior, it had latent potential and he managed to mount an unstoppable attack presaged by a thematic central breakthrough.
Adam Raoof describes Chris as the most extraordinary recorder of chess games because uniquely he persists in recording moves even during time scrambles. This game is not so much a time scramble as an tense ramble.
