2 February 2011: Kingston on top

Kingston reached the lofty heights of top of division 2 of the Surrey League (aka Beaumont Cup) following back-to-back victories over Wimbledon and Crystal Palace. Such is the tightness of the competition in these leagues, a couple of victories can make the difference between relegation fears and promotion aspirations. Full results

The recent successes are all the more commendable given that Kingston have been without a clutch of top players. Fortunately some strong chess playing local residents have made their presence known and reinforced the team. Tim Mifsud and Stephen Lovell have been a welcome addition to the first team. Rob Williams and Jay Wolfenden have strengthened the second team. Mike Sheehan and David Shalom have also been prepared to step in at short notice to help out.

The crucial decider of who comes top will be on Thursday 17th February when Kingston travel away to South Norwood.
